I don’t want to “another day another dollar” my life away. I refuse to. I hate that so many people on this planet are waking up every day and regurgitating a cliché to get going and to keep going. I get it, some of us have reasons where we need to do that. Many of us don’t have a single valid reason, we have excuses.
Truth be told, I unsubscribed from cliché life in 2021. Had the right alignment of changes and I woke up. A couple times, I tried going back to sleep, but a few months, weeks, days, and sometimes hours into a new 9-5, I crack.
I see waste and incompetence.
I see laziness and lethargy.
I see overdemand and under compensation.
And the worst thing I see are people knowingly and acceptingly struggling within a system that leadership refuses to support sufficiently.
I don’t mean pizza parties and BS; I mean standard operating procedures and guides. Within hours of starting somewhere, if I don’t see what I consider the “bible,” I know we are in trouble.
One of the easiest and most foundational things a business can do is to take the guesswork out of things for employees. The concept of making doing the actual work easy and people will do A LOT of work is lost on these knuckleheads.
Then add in 128 different chats. Group chats, Google Chats, WhatsApp, thatapp, ridiculous.
We made it too easy to be reached off hours. It takes no spine to send a digital message after hours, and in my opinion, it is happening at way too high of a rate.
Shut the F up, it’s 8:30 PM, that crap will be there at 8:30 AM.
I’m no slouch, if it’s an emergency, I’ll be there.
This is people talking about, “I just happened to drive by the office, and someone left the lights on.”
If you’re going to tattle, at least fix the situation, ya goober.
No one looks good saying, “Hey, I saw a problem! K love ya bye!”
If you want to brown nose, pull over, get out, turn the light off, and do it all the way at least, sheesh.
*(woosai)*
So, yeah, due to these factors, please accept my resignation from that lifestyle.
(Say “I” in the chat if you have ever Irish goodbye’d a job.)
It’s Professional Slackers till I die!
But what the F*** does that mean?
That means a few things, but what it really means is doing what you want, and don’t get me wrong. It ain’t easy being a Professional Slacker.
You have a lot of power when you take back your freedom of choice. Misused, you will be fighting to go back to sleep.
Every indie artist knows something, and that is, no matter how hard you work, until it leads directly to dollars, you don’t work in the eyes of many.
Your little skits.
Your little songs.
Your little stories.
Your little acting roles.
Breathe guys… breathe.
What’s crazy is trying to explain the concept to a friend or family member that their favorite artist or athlete put in more time for free than they could ever imagine. Right now, someone is mad at an entrepreneur for doing what they said they would. Working hard to achieve their dreams, goals, passions.
That’s what happens when you unsubscribe from “another day another dollar” life.
Passion.
Passion is doing it for free.
Passion is, “I don’t care if it never makes a dollar, I love it.”
They cannot understand the feeling of there not being a job application you fill out and wait for the interview.
No, this is basically a rabbit out of a hat.
Maybe it’s in there, maybe it’s not, but we will keep digging in that deep dark hole until we pull something out.
Maybe it isn’t a rabbit, maybe it’s an iguana or an anteater or something I don’t know yet, just pray for no skunks.
We are here for you.
We are here to help you and support you.
We are here to help kick down doors with you.
“The only way up is through.”
What To Expect
This is more than a blog.
This is a home for people trying to build something outside the script.
Here at Professional Slackers Universe, we’ll be covering:
* Indie art & creators
* Music & podcasts
* Comedy & storytelling
* Skate culture
* Cannabis culture
* Creative business & finance
* Lifestyle & self-direction
* Film, media, and internet culture
* Creative experiments, failures, wins, and everything in between
Most importantly, we’ll be documenting the process in real time.
No fake guru stuff.
No pretending we have all the answers.
No “10 easy steps to success.”
Just people trying to create meaningful lives on their own terms.
Some of this will work.
Some of it won’t.
But we’re showing up anyway.
Because at the end of the day, the only way up is through.
